Isogeometric Residual Minimization Method (iGRM) with direction splitting preconditioner for stationary advection-dominated diffusion problems

In this paper, we introduce the isoGeometric Residual Minimization (iGRM) method. The method solves stationary advection-dominated diffusion problems. We stabilize via residual minimization. discretize problem using B-spline basis functions. then seek to minimize isogeometric over a spline space built on tensor product mesh. construct solution smooth subspace of residual. can specify by reducing polynomial order, increasing continuity, or combination these. Gramm matrix for minimization is approximated weighted H1 norm, which express as Kronecker products, due tensor-product structure approximations. use preconditional be applied in computational cost proportional number degrees freedom 2D and 3D. Building these approximations, an iterative algorithm. test several numerical examples, compare it Discontinuous Petrov-Galerkin (DPG) Streamline Upwind (SUPG) stabilization methods. iGRM delivers similar quality solutions DPG method, uses smaller grids, does not require breaking spaces, but limited meshes. higher than SUPG, determination specific parameters.
